Building self-sufficiency
BikeHub Waiheke (formerly Waiheke Bikebox) is a community repair hub, started thanks to the efforts of Cycle Action Waiheke and with the support of the Local Board and Auckland Transport.
I was lucky enough to be involved with BikeHub from the early days, teaching workshops, volunteering as a mechanic, and creating events at the repair hub.
The aim of BikeHub is to make bicycle repair accessible to everyone. Teaching workshops specifically for women and gender non-conforming folks became a regular event at BikeHub, the aim being to welcome people who are often under-represented in bike shops.
