Regenerate Magazine

Regenerate Magazine is a publication set up to support people affected by homelessness and poverty across Wellington. Based on a similar model to The Big Issue, the objectives of the organisation are to provide a purposeful activity, and source of income, for the people selling the magazine.

I was involved in the early stages to design the layout of the magazine and set some styles out that could easily be used as a consistent template for future issues, as well as cover design.

An important part of this project was collaborating and designing with the homeless community in Wellington, which included commissioning artwork and content and working with some awesome illustrators, poets, and writers. This also provided another income opportunity and exposure for loads of talented people who might not otherwise be published.

It was also a great opportunity to support homelessfonts.org, a collaborative project between the Arrels Foundation and the homeless community in Barcelona, in which they created typefaces from the handwriting of 12 people who were sleeping rough in the city. These typefaces are sold online and the proceeds help support over 1400 homeless people in Barcelona, as well as paying royalties to the people whose handwriting was used.
